Applications are now open for the McDonald Fellowship program for the academic year 2024, these fellowships are funded by the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation. Candidates who are from lower-middle countries and want to do some research but don’t have any finances to carry out their research program can avail of this MSIF McDonald’s opportunity. The McDonald Fellowship enables early-career multiple sclerosis researchers from low- and middle-income countries to work in a research institution outside of their own country. During the visit, participants either gain expertise or carry out parts of joint research projects. Fellows will collaborate on projects with international organizations. McDonald’s fellowships in the UK will help develop the linkages and bonds of developing countries. After completion, fellows will return to their home countries and work for their home countries’ development. Fellows will get a chance to increase their social linkages. This fully funded fellowship in the UK is designed for candidates who want to work on an international platform.

Applicants who belong to the lower, middle, or upper-income countries defined by the World Bank can avail of this research opportunity. under this fellowship program candidates will be able to do research on MS projects by using newly developed expertise and networks. This is a joint application from the applicant and host. Before applying, candidates need to have identified a suitable project and host supervisor at an institution outside of their own country. The project host must be agreed upon before commencing the application.
Since the launch of McDonald’s MSIF Fellowship Program MSIF has awarded more than 30 Fellowships to researchers doing research in United Kingdom UK. MSIF will award the following benefits to the students under the McDonald Fellowship Program:
The fellowship consists of a two-year grant, around GBP/£ 30,000 per year, to cover travel and living costs, and an additional contribution of £2,000 per year to the host institution.

Eligiblity Criteria:
Applicants will  need to meet the following requirements and candidates must:
- Be educated to postgraduate level (at least MSc, preferably PhD/MD) in an area relevant to multiple sclerosis.
- Be citizens of a low- or middle-income country (all countries with a low, lower-middle or upper-middle income as defined by the World Bank)
- Focus their research on an area relevant to multiple sclerosis.
or they meet the one of the following situations: - Working or studying in a low- or middle-income country (all countries with a low, lower-middle, or upper-middle income at the time of application.
- Working or studying in another country on a project which started within the six months prior to application.

- Contact and agree on the project proposal with your host (project supervisor in a lab or clinic).
- Applicant completes all sections of the application form.
- After the Applicant submits, the Host is contacted to submit a supporting statement* using the same application form.
- Applicants ask the three referees to send their reference letters to the MSIF Organization before the deadline.
- Applicants must read the Terms and Conditions of the Award to understand requirements around reporting and payments.
