Each year the Commonwealth Department of Education and Training awards funding to Universities to award scholarships to domestic and international students undertaking Higher Degree Research programs. ANU currently conducts two annual central scholarship rounds, including the AGRTP, the University Research Scholarship, and other centrally managed scholarships.  Study in the University of Sydney in Australia
Round 1 is split into two parts, one for international candidates and one for domestic candidates with separate deadlines (31 August for international candidates and 31 October for domestic candidates each year). Round 1 is for commencements from the following year (January through to the end of March), however current candidates who recently commenced (enrolled typically for less than a year full-time equivalent) can also be considered by completing the ‘Request for a current ANU student to be considered for an HDR Scholarship form’. Round 2 has a deadline in the middle of April and is typically a smaller round with commencement or take up of the scholarship up to the end of August of the same year.

Scholarship Benefits:
Australian National University will award the following benefits to the International Students:
- Stipend scholarship for three years, with the possibility of:
- Six-month standard extension; and
- Another six-month extension if the reason for the request falls within the additional eligibility criteria under Item 15. Period of Support, of the AGRTP Procedure.
- Travel and removal allowances for students relocating to Canberra to commence their research program.
- Thesis allowance
- Dependant child allowance (International students only).
- Paid medical, maternity, and parental leave
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates need to meet the following requirements to apply for the ANU Scholarship Program:
- National and International Students from all over the world are eligible to apply
- students must enroll as international students in an accredited High Research Degree Program at ANU
- The AGRTP is a Postgraduate Program therefore candidates must have a bachelor’s degree before applying
- All students must meet the academic standards of ANU to be eligible for the Scholarship
- Students should ensure that there will be no source of income more than supporting the general cost of living during the study exceeds 75% of the RTP Stipend Rate
- The eligibility of the RTP Scholarships depends upon the students maintaining enrollment and international students retaining residency status during the entire course of study
- Candidates need to meet the English Proficiency requirements for eligibility

The last date of round one for the ARGTP Scholarships for international students is 31st August and for round 2 the deadline is 15 April of the current year.

Commencing students need to apply for the AGRTP Scholarships
- Candidates first enrolled in the academic course at the Australian National University
- All the eligible students will be considered for the AGRT Scholarship Program
- please ensure applicants select the appropriate boxes in the admissions application form to note that you are interested in being considered for any available scholarships at the time of enrollment
