World Bank and Japan are looking for bright candidates who have a strong history and work experience in their home country for the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship program for the academic year 2024-2025. The World Bank Bank’s Developing Economics is offering scholarships to young researchers who are determined to contribute to the World Bank’s mission of forging new dynamic approaches to capacity development and knowledge sharing in the developing world. This scholarship program is for 2 years and each year JJWBSP offers scholarships in January and March.

Joint Japan World Bank offers Graduate scholarships in 52 Participating Master’s Programs at 27 universities in different countries of the world like the U.S., Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan in key areas of development, including economic policy management, tax policy, and infrastructure management. If candidates are not admitted to the 52 Masters’ programs then they are not eligible for the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program.

About Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program:

The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJWBGSP) is a scholarship program jointly funded by the Japanese government and the World Bank. The program offers selected students from developing countries the opportunity to study a wide range of graduate-level courses at universities around the world, with the goal of promoting economic development in their home countries. JJWBGSP covers tuition fees, a monthly living stipend, round-trip airfare, health insurance, and travel allowance. Eligible fields of study include economics, health, education, engineering, and many others. Applicants must meet certain eligibility criteria, including citizenship of a developing country, a commitment to returning to their home country after graduation, and academic excellence.

Since 1987, JJWBGSP has enabled more than 6,000 mid-career professionals from 160 developing countries and Japan to complete graduate degrees in development-related fields. On an annual basis, the Government of Japan solely funds this scholarship program.

World Bank Scholarship Benefits:

The Joint Japan World Bank scholarship Program will offer the following benefits to the selected candidates:

  • Economy Class Travel between candidates’ home country and host country
  • In addition to the two-way air travel, scholars will receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip
  • Tuition waiver by the host institute
  • Medical Insurance will be provided by the host institute
  • Monthly Subsistence allowance that will cover living expenses
  • The scholarship will not provide any VISA assistance by JJWBGSP

Duration:

The duration of the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship program is two years or less.

Eligibility Criteria:

The World Bank Scholarship Program offers full scholarships to students from developing countries to pursue graduate-level studies in development-related fields at universities around the world. Here are the eligibility criteria for the program:

  1. Citizenship of developing countries: Applicants must be a citizen of a developing country that is eligible for the World Bank’s lending programs.
  2. Admission to a master’s program: Applicants must have already been admitted or currently enrolled in a master’s program at an accredited university located in a World Bank member country.
  3. The relevant field of study: Candidates must be pursuing a Master’s degree related to development, with a focus on fields such as economics, health, education, public administration, agriculture, engineering, or other related fields.
  4. Professional experience: Candidates must have at least 3 years of development-related work experience in a paid full-time position after completing a Bachelor’s degree.
  5. Hold a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree earned at least 3 years prior to the Application Deadline date.
  6. Candidates must be medically fit
  7. Applicants must not have received any scholarship funding from any other institution for the same level of study. Candidates who have already graduated or got scholarships via JJWBGSP are not eligible for this program
  8. Not related to World Bank: Not to be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, and/or staff of any type of appointment of the World Bank Group or a close relative of the aforementioned by blood or adoption with the term “close relative”

The applications for JJWBGSP for Window 1 commenced on 15 January 2024 and it will be ended on February 29, 2024.
For, Window 2 Application process will start on March 25, 2024, and it will end on 24 May 2024.
