Matsumae International Fellowship Program

Fellowship Benefits:

  • A monthly allowance of JPY 220,000 is provided to cover expenses for research activities (including materials) and living expenses in Japan.

Eligibility Criteria:

The candidates need to meet the following criteria for the MIF Fellowship Program:

  • Applicants of non-Japanese nationality who meet all the following requirements are eligible to submit application documents.
  • Applicants who empathize with the core values of the MIF.
  • Applicants must obtain acceptance from a host institution in Japan before applying.
  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (Doctoral degree).
  • Applicants must be at the age of 45 years old or younger at the time of application. (The birth year must be in/after 1979.)
  • Applicants must have sufficient English or Japanese language ability.

The AGRTPS is awarded to candidates who demonstrate outstanding aptitude for independent research. AGRTPS are considered based on academic merit, academic research training, and research indicators and performance. In 2024, the successful applicants received the maximum number of points (25) for their publications, i.e., applicants submitted 5 publications. The scholarship is tenable for up to three years for a Research Doctorate and up to two years for a Research master’s degree. Successful applicants are required to undertake full-time study and must be commencing a higher degree by research in Australia for the first time.

  • The AGRTPS pays a stipend at the standard rate set by the Australian Government of $33,990 pa tax-free (2024 full-time rate).
  • The AGRTPS also includes a Research Training Program place (RTP), which provides an offset for tuition fees for up to 4 years.
  • An AGRTPS student who moves to Adelaide from overseas is eligible for an establishment allowance (after arrival at Flinders) of up to $1,485
  • AGRTP also assists with relocation costs and airfares, provided the student can produce receipts.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must be citizens of any overseas country except New Zealand and do not hold Australian citizenship, Australian permanent resident status, or New Zealand citizenship
  • Candidates should Intend to commence full-time study for a higher degree by research in Australia for the first time, in the year for which the award is to be offered. Students who commenced their higher degree by research in the previous year but who, due to the timing of their application for admission and subsequent enrolment, were unable to apply for an AGRTPS in that year, or, commenced a higher degree by research and terminated that enrolment within six months of commencement, may be considered
  • Candidates must Intend to enroll in an area of research concentration.  These are areas in which the University has particular strength, has concentrated its research resources and has attracted external funding.
  • Candidates must satisfy all entry requirements for a higher degree by research, including the English proficiency levels following the English Language Proficiency Requirements for HDR Candidature at the time of application.
  • Candidates must make contact with an academic staff member  and have an informal agreement with that person to supervise them if successful
  • Candidates must have up to 5 publications which should be included in the evidence of the supervisor agreement
  • Candidates must provide certified copies of all university-level academic transcripts, translated into English

British Council Research Fellowship Program 2024

Great news for candidates who want to study in England. British Council at the event of its 90th Anniversary has announced the Research Fellowship Program for International Students. British Council Partnering with the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh is offering a Research Fellowship Program. This is a 12-month fellowship Program in which selected fellows partner with the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh. British Council Research Fellowship will be started in January 2025.

British Council and its Partner institute will select the two most extraordinary post-doctoral fellows who are interested in collaborating and joining the research program at the IASH Institute for the academic year 2024. British Council will select the postdoctoral researchers based in any ODA (Official Development Assistance) recipient country where the British Council operates. This is a three-year partnership. Over the coming years, additional rounds of fellowships – starting in January 2026 and January 2027 – will be awarded as part of the same program.
